I thought we could start a Q&A here about MH customs, to better understand what it takes to customize a MH doll. People looking to customize can refer to this thread for answers once we get some!
I have some questions, feel free to comment on or answer them!
Question: How do you remove a MH doll head?
Answer: Warm up the plastic of the head with hot water, then gently wriggle it. There's like an upside-down anchor inside the heads that holds them on. The anchor could snap if you're not careful, so be cautious!
Question: Can MH dolls be dyed? Do the heads and bodies end up even or different shades?
Question: Is it possible to give a MH doll a full body repaint and still have them be poseable? Like, does the paint chip or smear or come off, etc.
Answer: Full-body repaint tutorial: monstercrush.blogspot.com/2012/06/custom-monster-high-doll-tutorial.html
Question: Can you use chalk pastel on MH doll faces? How does it look? Can it be sealed afterwards?
Question: Is it possible to remove and then properly reattach the arms and legs of a MH doll?
Question: What type of hair do official MH dolls use? Do other types of hair work for MH dolls? Where can I buy hair?
Answer: Most MH dolls have saran hair. However, there are some that have kanekalon hair, which is softer than saran. Spectra and (some) Ghoulias have kanekalon hair. CAM wigs are made of nylon hair. You can purchase saran, kanekalon, and nylon hair from www.dollyhair.com
Question: How do I make a doll wig?
Answer: Here is a nice tutorial for making mohair wigs for dolls: www.fantasydollsbyd.com/New_page_72.htm
Question: How do I reroot hair?
Answer: Dollyhair's rerooting tutorial: www.dollyhair.com/reroottutorial.htm
Question: How do I patch up ear holes/CAM wig holes, etc. on a doll?
Answer: Hole-patching tutorial: www.nonaptime.com/2013/02/tutorial-patching-up-vinyl-gaps-and-holes/
Question: How do I make a rootable cap for hard-headed CAMs?
